The teachers
Heather Cornell
she is Manhattan Tap's artistic director and head choreographer. She created the company in New York in 1986. Her experience of theatrical collaboration is highly admired:ranging from the jazz icon Ray Brown through to legendary tap masters such as Buster Brown, Eddie Brown, The Copasetics, Cookie Cook, Steve Condos, Chuck Green...! She is also one of the unavoidable teachers at the international forefront, being a mixture of tradition (stemming from her mentors), experience, love of music (due to her encounters with brilliant musicians), inspiration and her inimitable style on stage.
Heather's workshop:
Are built on a teaching philosophy, which leads students to explore and nurture their own artistic style. She uses a combination of experience, which stems from her mentors, the development of her own specific "concert tap" style, and her numerous collaborations with first-rate musicians. This results in a teaching method rich in traditions, experience, love of music and inspiration. All of her workshops, accompanied by different types of musicians (Jazz, African, Cuban) will be influenced by the various musical styles.
Max Pollak
He started his career as an actor, a jazz singer and a jazz drummer. He toured in particular with Manhattan Tap and Cool Heat Urban Beat. He also created his own group, Rumba Tap - which eventually became the name of his own personal "concept". Max Pollak has developed an extremely unique and remarkable style. It's a merger of Afro-Cuban folk, Afro-American tap, songs and body percussion. This style has opened doors for him in Cuba, where he teaches regularly since 1998. He also produced the first
Max's workshop:
Or, how to enrich your tap dancing by the use of percussions... A number of instruments (congas, caixixi, claves...) will be at your disposal to complement the elaborate mixture concocted by Max: Tap dancing, Choreography, Rhythm, Songs - all used with the most unexpected music. A vast journey, which will be an eye-opener for you and should give you broader scope in your use of tap.
